Certified Fall Protection Awareness Technician (CFPAT)
Course Description
Each year in the U.S., falls consistently account for the greatest number of fatalities in the construction industry. In 2004, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that 1,224 construction workers died on the job, with 36 percent of those fatalities resulting from falls. In addition, the cost of care for injuries related to falls is a significant financial burden for the entire construction industry.
Events surrounding fall accidents often involve several factors, including unstable working surfaces, misuse of fall protection equipment, environmental factors, and human error. These factors contribute to the high incidence of injuries and fatalities, highlighting the importance of comprehensive safety measures at construction sites.
Studies have shown that the use of guardrail systems, fall arrest systems, safety nets, covers, and restraint and positioning devices can prevent many deaths and injuries from falls. This course is designed to assist you in identifying, evaluating, preventing, and protecting your employees from the harmful results of exposure to fall hazards at your construction work sites.
